Frequently Asked

Common questions about landed cost from Korea.

What is FOB and how does it differ from CIF?

FOB (Free On Board) is the price at which the seller delivers goods loaded onto the vessel at the named port — buyer pays freight + insurance from there. CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight) bundles seller-paid freight + marine insurance into the price. Landed cost adds tariff, VAT, and customs fees on top of CIF.

Is the KORUS FTA tariff really 0% for most products?

Yes — ~95% of US tariff lines are duty-free for Korean-origin goods under KORUS, either immediately or staged-in by 2026. Notable carve-outs remain for some textiles and certain agricultural categories. Always verify your specific HS6 line with your customs broker.

Why does the calculator only show Busan rates for ocean freight?

Busan handles ~95% of Korea's container exports and is the canonical reference lane for published indices (FBX, Drewry WCI). Other Korean ports typically add 5-12% inland feeder cost. For non-Busan origins, request a real quote from your forwarder or ERGSN's trade team.

How accurate are the freight rates?

Rates are quarterly published averages (FBX + Drewry WCI), not real-time spot quotes. Ocean container rates moved 30-300% per quarter in 2024-2025. Use these numbers for planning only — request a real spot quote from ERGSN's trade desk before any binding decision.

Does the calculator work for air cargo?

Yes. Pick Incheon Airport (ICN) or Gimhae Airport (PUS-air) as origin and Air mode. Calculator uses chargeable weight = max(actual_kg, volume_cm3 / 6000). PUS-air rates apply +20% over ICN and only cover regional lanes (JP, VN, TH, ID, PH).

Can I share my calculation with a colleague?

Yes — every calculation generates a shareable URL with all inputs encoded as query parameters. Copy the URL to send the exact same scenario to anyone. Loading the URL re-runs the calculation instantly.

Need 1:1 Sourcing Help?

The calculator answers the math. ERGSN's trade desk handles the rest.

Estimates only. Calculations use quarterly average rates (FBX + Drewry WCI), chapter-level FTA averages, and operational ERGSN quotes — not real-time spot rates or product-specific HS6/HS8 tariff schedules. For binding pricing and rules-of-origin determination, work with your destination customs broker or request a real quote from ERGSN's trade team.
